A Public Space of Memory and Continuity
The project is located in Ness Ziona, on a 3,650-square-meter open site that previously served as a public garden at the heart of a residential neighborhood. The redesign was initiated following the events of October 7 and the Iron Swords War, with the aim of transforming the site into a meaningful place of remembrance while preserving its role as an active part of community life. The central challenge was to create a space that balances memory and mourning with the continuity of life. At the heart of the garden, a memorial takes the form of a spiraling path, creating a gradual and personal experience of remembrance. Naturally finished Corten steel walls guide visitors inward toward an intimate seating area arranged around an oak tree. A small amphitheater next to the memorial provides a setting for ceremonies and community gatherings. Throughout the garden, intimate seating areas called "Memory Buds" are each dedicated to one of the fallen. Pergolas and climbing plants create shaded areas for moments of quiet reflection within the open landscape. Alongside the memorial spaces, play elements for young children made from natural materials keep the site a living and active neighborhood garden.
