Renewal of the Rehabilitation Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children

The Beit Micha building in Tel Aviv, originally inaugurated in 1973, serves as a multidisciplinary center supporting infants and children who are deaf or hard of hearing. As the building approached its 50th anniversary, the need arose to adapt the aging and complex facility to contemporary standards of care, accessibility, and performance. The renovation was guided by the association's vision of providing children not only with professional therapeutic support, but also with a physical environment that contributes to their growth, development, and rehabilitation. The project involved a comprehensive renewal of the building, with particular emphasis on creating spaces that support learning, interaction, and daily therapeutic activity. Acoustic performance was a central design consideration, alongside the upgrading of building systems and the provision of full accessibility. The interior is characterized by clean forms, durable light-toned materials, and a restrained palette of soft pastels and natural wood. Together, these elements create a calm and focused environment suited to the needs of children, families, and staff. The result is a bright, welcoming, and supportive setting that provides improved conditions for therapy, learning, interaction, and development.
