Historical Memory at the Heart of the Hill
In the heart of Ness Ziona, atop the historic "Hill of Love," stands a former infrastructure building that once served as a water reservoir. Its prominent location, near local landmarks such as Beit HaRishonim and the Great Synagogue, gives the site both historical and civic significance. The project seeks to transform the abandoned structure and its neglected surroundings into an active cultural center while preserving the site's local memory. At the same time, the intervention opens the hill to the public and reconnects it with the surrounding city as part of Ness Ziona's evolving urban fabric.
A Space for Art Through the Lens of Time
The design focused on transforming the existing water reservoir into a contemporary and flexible gallery space. The intervention preserves the character of the original structure by exposing the massive concrete beam system at ceiling level, giving the interior a raw, industrial quality that provides a neutral backdrop for changing exhibitions and historical displays. The program includes a multipurpose hall, offices, and service areas, with a spacious rooftop terrace serving as a key public space. Overlooking the surrounding landscape, the terrace functions as both a viewpoint and a gathering area, extending the cultural activity outdoors and strengthening the building's connection to the greenery of the hill.
