Community Roots, a New Future
Set on a green hillside and surrounded by mature eucalyptus trees, the longstanding community center had evolved over the years through a series of additions that fragmented the building and complicated circulation and accessibility. The project called for a comprehensive renovation and expansion, creating a more cohesive architectural identity while strengthening the center's relationship with the surrounding public space and community. The new addition is unified with the existing structure through an aluminum shading system along the southern façade, composed of green, khaki, and yellow tones. The system filters natural light while visually connecting the original lower structure with the new upper floor. The interior spaces were also comprehensively renovated to support contemporary community uses, resulting in a functional, welcoming, and coherent environment.
